VIDEO: Explore CGI.Backgrounds’ Wide Range of File Formats

Our File Formats
At CGI.Backgrounds, we know that 3D designers use a variety of DCCs and workflows to create their renders.
For that reason, we provide our content in a wide variety of standard and proprietary file formats, ensuring that you can always get your HDRi Maps and Backplates in the exact format you need.
In the above video, David Baylis walks you through the file formats offered for HDRi Maps and Backplates on the CGI.Backgrounds website.
For backplates , CGI.Backgrounds offers:
  • TIFF: The highest resolution available.
  • JPEG: A lower resolution option (typically 4K).
  • DNG: A raw, unedited file for more control over color and editing.
For HDRi Maps , the options include:
  • HDR: A standard high dynamic range format.
  • EXR: Another HDR format, both in 32-bit.
  • 360 Tonemapped TIFF: A pre-made file with post-processing already applied.
  • Ray HDR: A CGI.Backgrounds exclusive RAY.HDRi Map format that provides color-calibrated directional lighting to match the environment, simplifying the 3D lighting process.
As a CGI.Backgrounds subscriber, you can download up to a 30k resolution on many files. You can also request a RAY HDR conversion for any HDRi Map that does not yet have a RAY HDR option.
To access our full range of file formats, make sure to create a free CGI.Backgrounds account . Keep in mind that some resolution options may require a paid account.
We’re also excited to offer 3D scenes in a variety of formats. Take a look at our free VRED scenes , and join our newsletter for updates on new 3D scenes in a variety of time-saving formats.
