Earlier this year, we announced that CGI.Backgrounds is working closely with NVIDIA on its innovative Omniverse USD Creator platform.
NVIDIA is one of the companies leading the world in the development of generative AI. NVIDIA’s AI solutions extend to a variety of industries, but as a recent video from NVIDIA, WPP, and BYD shows, the company’s generative AI technologies are poised to revolutionize automotive rendering.
The video shows innovative generative AI systems for 3D rendering, and how WPP is using them to create full-motion content for the automotive brand DENZA.
In the past, car configurators required an exhaustive pre-rendering of hundreds of thousands of images to account for every possible option and variant. This process was not only time-consuming but also resource-intensive.
Generative AI for Automotive Rendering
Generative AI can make this rendering process far faster and easier. As NVIDIA’s demonstration shows, when properly trained and configured, generative AI can create both convincing digital twins of actual vehicles, and realistic environments into which those vehicles can be placed.
Tools like USD Composer bring together these AI-created assets–as well as, optionally, HDRi Maps and other “scans” of real-world locations–in order to create virtual productions in record time.
As the visuals in NVIDIA’s demonstration video show, the results are photorealistic and highly convincing.
They’re also highly adaptable. Using generative AI to create a new background could potentially change the location of a virtual production from a snow-covered landscape to a sunny mountain road in just a single click.
Likewise, generative AI-driven configurators could change out trim levels, colors, or other attributes of a vehicle’s digital twin in seconds.
